This article is about the Anime version of the Transmitters. For alternate pages referred to by this name, please click any of the icons above.

Transmitters are small round microchips that are stapled into the back of the left ears of all the orphans at Grace Field House. The use of these transmitters help a caretaker to track down the whereabouts of an orphan via a radar. Shortly after being transplanted into their ears, the transmitter appears to be a small red bump underneath the skin, similar to a mosquito bite. However, the visibility of the transmitters underneath the skin fades and disappears over time. Their true form is unknown because they are not externally visible. The orphans are told the red bumps on the back of their ears are from where a doctor took their blood to test for diseases when they were babies.

Operation[]

Transmitters are applied to infants before being sent to a farm. They are applied by some kind of stapler, leaving a small scar on the back of their ear, which disappears as the ear heals over time.

The transmitters work as some kind of safety measure for the Mamas and Demons because they can monitor the location of the orphans with the use of a radar. The transmitters are undetectable by the children unless it is newly implanted, and it is possible to see the needle mark. Once the transmitter is removed in some way, it will automatically send a message to the radar and headquarters, but this is not the case if the ear itself is removed. This was implied when Emma removed her ear and no alarm went off.

Disadvantages[]

Although they are of utmost confidence of the "Demons", the transmitters have some disadvantages. First, the transmitters do not release unique identification signals, meaning the radar user cannot determine which child is being detected. For some reason, the transmitters completely lose the signal when a child is near the gate or the wall.

After six years of study and experiments, Ray discovered a way to turn off the transmitters. Using gifts he earned from Mama Isabella for being good, such as handheld video games and other things he asked for, Ray was able to create a device that could cripple the transmitters by bringing them closer to the ear and pushing the button.

Anime and Manga Differences[]

Trivia[]

  • The transmitters were possibly created after 2015 as Ray affirms that at that time there was no technology that could create them.
