Thoma is a mischievous, rowdy, curious and childish boy who enjoys handicraft, inventing new things, playing pretend, chasing his siblings, catching bugs and pulling pranks along with his best friend, Lannion. Thoma (トーマ, Tōma?) is a seven-year-old orphan who formerly resided at Grace Field House Plant 3 as one of the many foster children of Isabella. Due to his age, Thoma is considered to be one of the house's "average-quality goods".[6] He is an energetic boy who is often seen around his best friend, Lannion. He is later brought into the escape plan alongside Lannion, Nat, and Anna after the truth of the orphanage is revealed.

After successfully escaping Grace Field alongside fourteen other orphans, Thoma now seeks to find William Minerva, whom he and his team believe can grant them the liberty to live a safe and peaceful life away from the demons.

During spring 2049, he finally reunites with Emma again and cries tears of joy, even though she lost her memories.[12] In the special epilogue chapter, Dreams Come True, Thoma lived out his dream of fully enjoying a roller coaster.[13]

Lannion

Lannion is Thoma's best friend ever. They are always seen together, and whatever they do; playing, pulling pranks, inventing things, or running away from demons, they do together. Due to being the same age and having grown up together, Thoma and Lannion have a very close twin sibling-like relationship. They have near identical personalities and interests and sometimes say the exact same thing at the same time as one another and finish each other's sentences. They are also known to mirror each other's actions and poses.

Emma

Thoma is close to Emma and views her as an older sister. Although he looks up to her as their leader, he also likes to mess with her and pull pranks on her.

Ray

Thoma cares for Ray and admires him as an older brother. He was against Ray's plan to die and therefore worked hard to prevent it. Thoma also appreciates Ray's hard work and his wise words which he sometimes shares with him and Lannion. However, he also likes to tease him and sometimes throws out sarcastic comments about his self-sacrificing personality.

Trio name origins 2
  • A mini game in The Promised Neverland official site revealed two manga pages for players who achieved high scores. The pages showed how Isabella named Thoma after a tomato, whether you believe her or not.
    • It is possible that Isabella was lying about this, since in the official fanbook it is confirmed that the Grandma decides the names of all the children born at Grace Field, not the Mamas.[2]
  • Posuka Demizu answered in a Q&A how Thoma and Leuvis' monkey Palvus resembles her.[14]
  • The following are Thoma's rankings in some of The Promised Neverland's official popularity polls.
    • Thoma is ranked 13th in the Popularity Poll that was announced in Chapter 88 of the Manga.
    • In Shounen Jump's 2nd popularity poll results announced in Chapter 102, Thoma is in 23rd place with a total of 84 votes.
  • Thoma's favorite food is Yakitori.[2]
  • Thoma was designed to look like he was from Japan, whereas Lannion was designed to look like he was from the United States.[15]
    • As a result, it can be assumed that Thoma is of Japanese descent.
  • The name "Thoma" is a Swiss, Albanian, and German version of "Thomas", a surname and boy's given name deriving from the Aramaic name "Te'oma", meaning "twin".
  • As of 2045, Thoma sleeps in the same bedroom as Gilda, Lannion, Emma, Jasper, Marnya, Phil, Tom, Chamberlain, Chris and Yvette.
  • Lannion and Thoma are two of Demizu's favorite characters.[2]
