Appearance[]
The radio has a very old fashioned box-like design with various buttons and dials on it as well as a handle strap on top. It also contains a microphone attached to a spiral cord which the user speaks directly into to communicate with the person on the other end.
Plot[]
Jailbreak Arc[]
Isabella uses the radio to report in to Headquarters each night. Later, when Don and Gilda are exploring the secret room, they discover a large radio built into the wall. When the children set the house on fire and escape, Isabella somehow manages to make it outside safely with a portable radio. After making sure the younger kids are safe, Isabella runs into the woods, away from the younger children, and proceeds to notify Headquarters of the fire and escape.
Usage[]
Every night the mothers at Grace Field House a required to report in to Headquarters using the radio. The radio is also used to inform the mothers of any upcoming shipments or changes in schedule. If there is an emergency, the mother will use the radio to notify Headquarters.
Anime and Manga Differences[]
The radio plays a larger role in the anime than it did in the manga. In the manga, the radio does not play a role after the Jailbreak Arc. However, in the anime, the children find a radio inside Shelter B06-32 which they use to listen in on the reports the mothers are giving back at Grace Field. When the children escape from the Shelter, they take the radio with them and continue to keep tabs on what is happening at Grace Field using the radio. In 2047, the children are lured back to Grace Field after hearing via the radio, that Phil and the other children will be shipped out. Vincent also uses the radio to contact Peter Ratri and mislead him on how they plan to return to Grace Field.
