The Promised Pens are objects possibly made by William Minerva, which were either left behind at certain places or given to certain people for the orphans from Grace Field to have the chance to find a safe place in the form of Shelter B06-32.

Appearance[]

The pen cap is plain silver and body of the pen has a silver and gray checkered design with the tiny letters W.M. written on the end of it. The body of the pen slides open revealing a hidden compartment with the letters B06-32 written on it. The hidden compartment also projects a virtual map which tells the user what their current location is.

Minerva's message in the pen

Minerva's message

After the children escape from Grace Field, they discover that the Promised Pen has Morse code on the virtual navigation map which translates to "Touch Me". After touching the map, a box pops up with a virtual keyboard and the numbers "13-18-02". The children then realize they need to type a password into the box and that the one book from Grace Field's library that contained Minerva's owl bookplate but had no Morse code contains the password. By opening the book to page 18 and going to line 18, the second word is "Human" which turns out to be the password. After entering "Human" into the box a message from William Minerva telling the escapees to head to B06-32 is revealed.

The Map[]

Demon world map

The pen serves as a navigation map for the orphans to find their way in and out the Grace Field House. It gives clues on where to go in certain codes. As per the Promised Pen, the Demon World is theoretically divided into four areas, with Grace Field House as the origin point. Going clockwise, they are labeled A, B, C, and D. The pen also tells the user their current position on the map in the form of coordinates made up of a single letter followed by two numbers, a dash, and two more numbers. The letter indicates the user's current area on the map, while the numbers on the left side of the dash indicates the distance north-south and the numbers on the right indicates the distance east-west. For example, B06-32 means area B, 06 degrees south and 32 degrees east.

Anime and Manga Differences[]

In the manga, the Pen Cap is found by Emma and Lucas hidden in a desk drawer in the cabin on the golden lake at Goldy Pond after solving a riddle by William Minerva hinting at it's whereabouts. In the anime, the Pen Cap is given to Emma by Vylk who acquired it from an unnamed human he killed and ate years ago. Also in the anime, the Pen Cap contains a map of Grace Field and the cure to the Lambda children's excruciating headaches which is not the case in the manga.
