Peter Ratri (ピーターラートリー, Pītā Rātorī?) is the main antagonist of the The Promised Neverland anime.

History[]

Peter Ratri always looked up to his brother, James Ratri, the previous head of the Ratri clan, but James found out about the farms, and found it unacceptable. He then formulated plans to reverse this, started to call himself William Minerva, and set up many devices and shelters in order to save the children. However, Peter saw this as wrong, and ended up hiring a hitman to kill his brother, Minerva. But after he heard his last words, he regrets his decision and mourns his death. [1]

Appearance[]

Peter is an average-built man with a menacing look on his face. He has wavy, long, blonde hair worn in parted down the middle and yellow eyes. He is often seen wearing a white suit with a black shirt, a red tie and brown shoes.

Personality[]

Peter seems to be a kind man but in reality, he is an evil person who wants to control children and he does not want them to have hope. However, he does have redeeming qualities. Even though he ordered the assassination of his elder brother, he expresses remorse for it as Peter thought that the killing of James was a necessity to sustaining peace between the humans and demons and didn't take twisted delight in killing his own brother. All of Peters actions despite the ethical complications from enforcing the promise to preforming unethical experiments at Lambda stemmed from a misguided attempted to prevent war from breaking out between humans and demons. Peter didn't think there was a better solution to maintain peace between factions, Going as far to commit suicide then travel to the human world with the moms and the orphans.

Plot[]

Post-Jailbreak Arc[]

He met Norman the day Norman had supposed to be shipped out, He greeted Norman.[2] Isabella tells Norman that Peter will be Norman's new father but he is too young to be father of Norman. He told that he want Norman to help him in his research. Peter saw Norman in screen and declares that he will control all children in farms, without even a speck of hope.[3]

King of Paradise Arc[]

It is revealed that Phil and the others are to be shipped out, however it is a trap by Peter Ratri to lure the escapees to Grace Fields and Peter called Isabella (now Grandma) and he asks if it is the right to to do and she agreed. Ratri explains his plan to expand the Lambda drug-based development to other farms, demolishing the need for high-class farms such as Grace Field.[4]

Return to Grace Field Arc[]

Isabella-peter-betrayal

Isabella aiming at Peter Ratri when their electrifying chips were disabled.

When Emma and the escapees arrive via air balloon, they get into the farms and hack the camera and gates of the farms, resulting in the escape of Phil and the others. When they all meet near the exit they are surrounded by sisters and mamas along with Isabelle, while holding rifles indicating the end of the escape. Peter Ratri has backup demon forces coming but are then quickly aimed at by the sisters and mamas. Isabella revealed that during the hack, the chips implemented into sisters and mamas that are used to avoid misguiding, were broken. Many demons who had drank Mijuka's blood had came in rebellion, killing all the demon forces for Peter. As Peter Ratri is on the floor shaking from what had happened, Emma gives him a chance and said "Lets live together. Peter Ratri".[5]

Peter death anime

Peter's death.

Emma attempts to convince Peter Ratri to come with them to the human world. Peter insists that there is no hope for him, and ends up cutting his throat. Ratri decides to die in the building he sees as his fate. With Ratri dead, the Grace Field residents along with the escapees are able to go to the human world at last. [6]

Relationship[]

Isabella[]

Isabella and Peter's relationship maybe purely in upholding the Promise and making sure that the children cannot escape to the Human World, but Isabella betrays Peter and she decided to save the children against Peter.

Emma[]

Although Peter opposed and hated Emma and others, Emma treated him well. Emma invites Peter to live with them together, but Peter refuses and commits suicide. Peter's refusal to go with the moms and children was due to the pessimistic idea that a better solution to preventing all-out war between the human and demon realms was impossible. Emma actually reminded Peter of his late brother.

James Ratri[]

The two of them originally had a brotherly bond. Peter even agreed with James his way of thinking for a while because he thought that it was better. This seemed to be a facade when Peter revealed that he was just pretending to agree with James' plans. Peter even went as far to take James his title of the 35th head of the family and claim it himself. He then ordered his underlings and the rest of his clans to kill his own brother, implying the hostility between the two. However, Peter did generally care for his elder brother as he felt remorse for killing James and wasn't power-hungry. Peter only usurped his brother's position as head of the Ratri Clan as a perceive necessity to maintain the balance between the human and demon realms. Peter was too pessimistic to submit to his brother's line of thinking; Hence he ordered a hit on James.
