John (ジョン, Jon) is a minor character of The Promised Neverland manga series and a recurring character from the Records of Comrades light novel. He was an escapee from Glory Bell, and a childhood friend of Yugo and Lucas. He was killed by Leuvis when he and his friends ventured into Goldy Pond.

History[]

John's name written on the shelter wall.

John dies

John's death.

John was a boy born and raised as an orphan at Glory Bell orphanage, alongside Lucas, Yugo, Dina, and countless other children. Around thirteen years ago, in 2033, Yugo brought forward the idea of escaping (presumably after finding out the true intentions of the farms). From there, John escaped with Yugo and Lucas and sixteen other children. John and his friends then took refuge at Shelter B06-32 before deciding to travel to the human reserve in hopes of finding William Minerva. On the way there, John and his friends were captured by the Poachers who brought them to Goldy Pond. Once there, Leuvis mercilessly slaughtered him and all of his friends with the exception of Yugo, who later returned to the Shelter alone, and Lucas, who begun living in the windmill with another boy, after barely managing to escape alive. He appears in the third light novel, Records of Comrades.

Appearance[]

John is a boy with short blonde hair with a tuft of long bangs hanging over the center of his forehead. During his time at Glory Bell, he is seen wearing the uniform that all of the Premium Farm children wear- a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt and white pants along with brown boots. After escaping from the orphanage, he is seen wearing a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt underneath a dark colored plaid waistcoat and black pants along with brown shoes. His Glory Bell identification number is tattooed across the left side of his abdomen.

Personality[]

Like all of his siblings, John loved to eat cookies. He also enjoyed organizing teams for him and his siblings to play tag in.[1]

Plot[]

Promised Forest Arc[]

When Emma and the fourteen other Grace Field Escapees enter the Shelter, Yvette is shocked when she peers into Yugo's bedroom and sees the names of Yugo's deceased friends written on the wall along with the word "Poachers" in big black letters. Anna asks Yvette what's wrong before seeing the room for herself. Yvette and Anna remain silent as they begin to wonder what it all means.

Search for Minerva Arc[]

On the day before Yugo, Emma, and Ray depart for Goldy Pond, Yugo returns his bedroom and silently reflects on what happened to his friends at the hands of the Poachers. Emma approaches Yugo and asks him what "Poachers" are, but Yugo simply responds by angrily telling Emma to get out of his sight. Emma ignores him and continues asking questions about his friends and what happened at Goldy Pond, but Yugo refuses to tell her anything saying "It's all a secret." Over the next few days as Yugo is accompanying Emma and Ray to Goldy Pond, he begins to experience flashbacks of his friends during their time growing up at Glory Bell, to living with them in the Shelter, to their eventual death in Goldy Pond. As they get closer to their destination, the flashbacks get worse and after talking with Emma, he begins to have a change of heart and decides to tell them the truth.

Yugo in afterlife

John reunites with Yugo and Lucas in the afterlife.

Cuvitidala Arc[]

After Yugo and Lucas died in the explosion, they woke up in the afterlife, surrounded by all their friends they had once lost. Dina walked up to Yugo and hugged him warmly while Yugo apologized for not being able to see her quicker in the afterlife. Dina interrupted him and denied what he said. Dina continued to hug Yugo as the latter cried in her arms.
