Returning to our heavenly father... death is something to be happy about.— Father to Rita in "We Were Born".
Father (お父さん, Otōsan) is a character who only appears in the special chapter, We Were Born. He is a priest who cares for orphans at a church and is the guardian of Rita. While he appears to care for the orphans, he actually only views them as tools to make money.
Appearance[]
Father appears to be a tall and slim middle-aged man with slicked back grey hair with white streaks, black eyes and rectangular glasses. He wears black robes, black shoes and a necklace with a cross on it.
Personality[]
While he initially appears to be kind and loving to the orphans he cares for, he is actually cold, calculated and only cares about making money off illegally selling the orphans on the red market (organ trade).
Plot[]
On the day before Rita is to be "adopted" by Mr. Mendel, Father and the other orphans throw her a goodbye party at the church. Rita later overhears Mr. Mendel telling Father that he intends to kill Rita in order to save his daughter, Margo. After discovering that Rita overheard their conversation, Father tells Rita that she must die so that Margo can live, and that dying to save someone else is an honor and Jesus would have done the same thing.
The next day, after Mr. Mendel pays Father for Rita he laughs and admits to Leo that Rita was just a tool to make him money and she was foolish to love him. Leo is furious and proceeds to attack Father and Mr. Mendel and goes to rescue Rita.
Relationships[]
Rita[]
Rita loved her foster Father as if he was her real father and for most of her life, Father seemed to loved her in return. However, after he sold Rita to Mr. Mendel, Father admitted that he did not actually love Rita and only wanted to sell her to someone to make money.
