Evil Blood, also referred to as Mujika's Blood, is a type of Demon blood that makes the owner immune to degeneration. Evil blood is known to occur naturally in some Demons such as Mujika, but it can also be acquired by drinking the blood of someone who has already it.
History[]
The Demon species has evolved to take on the appearance and intelligence of whatever creature they consume. They want to be as smart as possible so they choose to eat human meat to be as smart as humans. However, they must eat it often or risk degenerating back into a mindless wild Demon.
The wealthy and high ranking Demons are served the highest quality human meat from the Premium Farms which results in them gaining the high intelligence of the humans from those farms. On the other hand, Demon civilians are served low quality human meat from the Factory Farms which results in them gaining the low intelligence of the humans from those farms. The wealthy and high ranking Demons take advantage of this and use the civilians lower intelligence to control them and thus rely heavily on the farm system to keep their power and control over everyone else.
Over time Demons started evolve and some Demons started to be born with a mutation in their blood that no longer made them dependent on human meat to maintain the characteristics and sapience of humans. It also prevented them from being affected by the new things they ate. The wealthy and high ranking Demons as well as the Ratri Clan saw this as a threat to their power and society since they would not be able to control these individuals by feeding them low quality meat to keep their intelligence low. As a result, the Queen declared this mutation an "Evil Blood" and used fear-mongering to scare unknowing Demon civilians into not wanting to drink the blood, saying it was "evil" and will kill them. Additionally, the Queen ordered that any Demons who possess this so-called "Evil Blood" must be captured and executed immediately. The Royal Family and the Five Regent Families would also eat the Demons who possessed the "Evil Blood" after executing them, giving them the "Evil Blood" as well. However, they keep this a secret from the civilians. Despite possessing the "Evil Blood" themselves, the Royal Family and the Five Regent Families still choose to eat humans because they enjoy the taste and to keep up appearances around other Demons who are unaware that they possess it.
Mujika[]
When Mujika was born with this blood, she was hailed by her village as a "miracle child" for her immunity to degeneration. It is implied that there were other Demons born with this blood, but they have since been exterminated and now Mujika is the only one left. At some point, Mujika's village was destroyed by servants of the Royal family seeking to execute anyone who possess the so-called "Evil Blood". Her family was killed in the battle and Mujika herself was captured and held in the dungeon at the Royal Capital awaiting execution where she met and befriended Sonju. Sonju helped Mujika escape from the dungeon and ran away with her, becoming a "Heathen" himself.[1]
Heathens[]
The Evil Blood gave birth to the religion known as "Heathens" which consists of a small amount of Demons who choose not to eat human meat. As a result, they are ostracized from Demon societies and are wanted by the Queen. Thus, the "Heathens" live life on the run, hiding wherever possible and never staying in one place for too long. The "Heathens" also seek to help starving and less fortunate Demons by offering their blood to anyone who wants or needs it.
Use[]
Evil blood is known to occur naturally in some Demons such as Mujika, but it can also be acquired by drinking the blood of someone who has already it. Many Demons choose to drink the blood from elegant wine glasses. Occasionally, a Demon who possesses the blood will cut off a limb and feed it to another Demon to give them the blood. Due to the Demon species ability to quickly regenerate, they will easily and quickly grow back their severed limb.

Anime and Manga Differences[]
While the Evil Blood is present in the anime, it is only used as a tool to prevent degeneration. The political elements of the Evil Blood and on a larger scale, the farm system being used by the wealthy and high ranking Demons to control the civilians is absent from the anime. The Queen and the Five Regent Families also do not play a role in the anime, being reduced to cameo appearances in the final episode.
