The Cup Phone was a tin can telephone created by Emma in the winter of 2039 to communicate with Norman while he was sick and quarantined from the rest of the orphans.

Appearance[]

The Cup Phone is a simple tin can telephone made from two plain white paper cups and a piece of string connecting them together from the bottom of the cups. Norman's name is crudely written across one cup in blue and Emma's name is crudely written across the other in orange. Six years later in 2045, the cups have become slightly yellow with age.

History[]

During a snowball fight in the winter of January 2039, five-year-old Norman fainted due to the low temperature and had to be quarantined within the orphanage's infirmary. He was also isolated from the other children by Isabella. All of the children begged Isabella to let them see Norman, but Isabella refused. Emma in particular could not stand being isolated from her dear friend and tried to sneak into the infirmary and talk to him to help him feel better, but failed in every try as she was caught by Isabella consistently, who forbade her to stay near Norman in fear of how his cold might spread to her. In the end, Emma thought of interacting with Norman via a cup phone that she quickly made out of two paper cups and some string. Norman chatted with Emma and the other orphans merrily throughout the night.[1]

Plot[]

Jailbreak Arc[]

In 2045, when eleven-year-old Norman is preparing to be shipped out, he comes across the old Cup Phone that Emma made for him all those years ago. After reminiscing on some happy memories from his childhood, Norman decides to place Cup Phone in his luggage. It is the only item he packs despite knowing it is pointless since he expects to be killed. While Norman, is ultimately not killed during his shipment and is instead transferred to Lambda 7214, he still did not get to keep his belongings. This is shown when Isabella returns to the house and places Cup Phone on a shelf in the secret room, right next to Little Bunny.[1]

Usage[]

Emma and Norman use the Cup Phone to communicate while Norman is quarantined in the house's infirmary.
