Unyielding Reed (不屈の葦, Fukutsu no Ashi?) is the seventy-fifth chapter of The Promised Neverland.
Synopsis[]
The children of Goldy Pond and Emma work through their plan to defeat the demons. However, lunch is cut abruptly when the Goldy Pond music starts playing suddenly.
Plot[]
Emma and the other children are training in the forest, Emma shooting at targets. It's mainly to get her used to a gun Goldy Pond will use for their attack on the demons later on. As Zack, Sonya, Sandy and Emma speak, they talk about their intentions; none of the demons know that the children know how to kill them, as well as their intent to. As far as they know, they're scared children who run away since it's the act they've been showcasing all these years.
As Sonya speaks about the years of training, along with the children they lost along the way, she talks about Lucas' original group, the. Originally, they managed to kill the demons and would've escapped unscathed if it weren't for Leuvis who wiped out his group, all but for Mister, who ran, and Lucas, who was spared (but lost an arm). The three children then explain that they need to look out for Leuvis and plan hunting him carefully, him being the strongest of the group.
Time cuts forward to later in the day during lunchtime, where Gillian and Pepe are seen serving food to those who survived the last attack. Emma brings an extra plate of food to a still-recovering Theo, scolded yesterday by Violet and traumatized by the attack which resulted in his two siblings being killed. Violet apologizes for it, saying she did nothing to help them and felt like she let them die; she recalls never caring for strangers and just helping herself, and as a result felt like it was her fault for not helping them. Through this, Violet encourages Theo to fight alongside her and the others, telling him to avenge his family like she is for her own. Theo expresses his anger about what happened, the demons taunting them, and how he did nothing to help. Emma begins to encourage him by giving a speech about not giving up, and how humans are everything but weak. Theo and Emma then begin to eat, and agree that tomorrow will be the day their plan will carry out.
As Emma plans her attack tomorrow with the other children, the Goldy Pond music starts up, signaling the demons that are coming. The children are not prepared since they stated that the demons come every two or three days at a time, meaning they didn't expect the demons to come back again. Now caused forcefully to jump into action, Oliver orders everyone to get to their places while other Goldy Pond Resistance members grab children and rush them to safety.
