Compensation (代償, Daishō?) is the one-hundred and seventy-ninth chapter of The Promised Neverland manga.
Synopsis[]
It is revealed that all the humans in the Demon World safely arrived in the Human World, but the Grace Field children realize that Emma has disappeared. Norman, Ray, and the others embark on a journey to find her. Meanwhile, a sleeping Emma is found by a human in a cold place.
Plot[]
After descending the stairs beneath Grace Field, they were teleported to a shore somewhere in New York City as the Statue of Liberty can be seen in the distance.
The children were all asleep when they arrived. Upon waking up, they can hardly believe their eyes - they’ve finally achieved their goal of reaching the human world.
They marveled at the tall skyscrapers before them, the numerous people they saw, and, most of all, the lack of demons. The excited children turned around to thank Emma but, to their surprise, Emma was nowhere to be found. They suspected that Him might have taken Emma away as the price for freeing them to the human world.
A flying craft soon hovered near them. A group of people soon emerged from the craft and introduced themselves as members of the Ratri Clan.
“My name is Mike Ratri, Peter’s uncle and currently the proxy head of the Ratri Clan,” one of the gentlemen introduced himself. “’Code Solid,’ I already know. I’m not your enemy, our clan will no longer harm you, children. We’ll take you on.”
Mike Ratri seemed worried about something and wanted to secure the children as soon as possible. “Climb aboard before things get complicated,” he told the newcomers.
The TV news later revealed that other groups of children from the demon world appeared in other parts of the human world as well. Mike Ratri assured the children that his clan is also securing the other children.
It was revealed that the current year is 2047. Between 2030 and 2040, the world experienced various natural disasters, food shortages, epidemics, and a ten-year war resulting in sweeping changes to its political and economic systems where the entire world basically became one huge nation.
Meanwhile, Emma was shown lying in the sands somewhere. Someone wearing a pair of boots is seen approaching Emma, who was still asleep.

Trivia[]
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, chapter 179 ended up being much shorter than originally planned and much of the world-building for the Human World was cut.[1]
- From chapter 178 onwards, Shirai felt that the number of pages was too few to include everything he wanted. Chapter 179 was particularly affected by it. He once considered redrawing the chapter for the volume version. Originally, it was supposed to have a slightly eerie atmosphere where Chris would wake up and others would proceed to talk without worrying about Emma, then Chris would suddenly ask "Huh, where is Emma?" Some fans could correctly predict this pattern, resulting in Shirai's loss of motivation to draw it. The pages weren't sufficient either. Shirai developed 5 different patterns for chapter 179's storyboard but he was still running out of pages. Eventually, he prioritized Norman and Ray's despair over Chris waking up.[1]
