Carol (キャロル, Kyaroru?) is a minor character of The Promised Neverland. She is a one-year-old orphan who formerly resided at Grace Field House Plant 3 under the parental care of Isabella. Due to her age, Carol is considered to be one of the house's "low-quality goods".[4] Carol is the newest child who arrived at Plant 3, replacing Conny.[5]

Carol now resides at a different plantation at Grace Field House under the parental care of Yukko along with Sherry, Eugene, Phil, Milly, and Charlie after Grace Field House Plant 3 was burnt down.[6]

Appearance[]

Carol baby

Carol is a small one-year-old girl with short, unruly pale pink hair and light blue eyes. Like all the other children at the orphanage, she wears a plain white onesie with a plain white bib and brown boots. Her identification number, "53494", can be seen on the left side of her neck.

By 2049, Carol has grown much taller, sports unruly, shoulder-length hair. She wears the standard Grace Field uniform- a plain white long sleeved button-up shirt and a white skirt along with brown boots.

History[]

Carol was born at Grace Field on August 27, 2044 and sent to Plantation 3 a year later in 2045, growing up along with several other children under the parental care of Isabella. She was left behind with the younger children at Grace Field House, while the children over five years old made their escape. Carol now resides at a different plantation at Grace Field after the Grace Field House Plant 3 was burnt down.

Personality[]

Not much of her personality is shown, but she appears to be an innocent, happy, and typical one-year-old who loves her family and enjoys playing with her siblings. She appears to be fond of Emma, more than anyone else and Emma would later tell Mujika how Carol would make funny grumpy faces. After she grew up a bit, it is mentioned by Phil that Carol grew more energetic and talkative as she had begun to learn more words.

Plot[]

Introduction Arc[]

Taking daily tests, playing a game of tag and hide-and-seek, eating scrumptious homemade food and having a good time – Carol went through the same routine every day at Grace Field House. In the cafeteria of Grace Field House, Isabella introduced Carol and Krone to the orphans, saying how Carol will be their new younger sister whilst Krone is appointed to be their Sister.

Jailbreak Arc[]

Carol's arrival to Grace Field made a significant impact on Emma's group, as she was the key the children needed to discover the location of the transmitters. The transmitter was found in Carol's ear, leading Emma to find the transmitter in her own ear as well. During the inspection, Carol grew fond of Emma.

Carol is later seen to be carried around by Isabella in various situations. On the night of the escape, she sings her lullaby whilst Carol sleeps peacefully.

On the night when the House burnt down, Carol was seen expressing concern regarding the absence of her fifteen older siblings. After Isabella failed to retrieve the older children, Carol was seen sleeping with her other siblings who were left behind, being cared for by Isabella. Emma promises that she will come back within two years to rescue her siblings from Grace Field.

Cuvitidala Arc[]

Carol says Phil's name

Carol tries to say Phil's name.

Two months after the escape and Grace Field House Plant 3 burnt down, it is revealed that Carol was transferred to a different plantation at Grace Field. She now resides on a new plantation along with Phil, Sherry, Eugene, Milly and Charlie. Phil mentions that Carol grown bigger and even learned to talk.[7]

Return to Grace Field Arc[]

After getting the word that all the farms are to be abolished, Emma returns to Grace Field House to get Carol and the others.[2] When the Grace Field escapees see Carol upon reuniting, they cannot stop praising her and gushing over how much she has grown. Although, Carol does not remember who any of them are, she seems curious about them and promptly asks Phil who they are.

Human World Arc[]

Upon arriving in the Human World, Carol is seen to be visibly worried and shocked about Emma's disappearance. Carol, along with the other children, agrees to search for Emma so they can reunite with her again.[8] Over the next two years spent in the Human World, Carol began attending school. By 2049, she can speak and walk effortlessly and is known to be attached to Phil. During spring 2049, she finally reunites with Emma again and cries tears of joy, even though she lost her memories.[9]

Relationships[]

Emma, Norman and Ray[]

Emma and Norman have a deep regard for Carol, as she is a part of their "family". Upon learning that all of her sibling that had been shipped out were dead, Emma and Norman vow to escape with all of their younger siblings, despite most of them being under the age of five. Ray, however, is more skeptical of their plan and considers everyone other than Don and Gilda to be burdens to their escape plan.

Despite this, Ray really does care about his younger siblings, but believing that escaping with everyone was impossible, he had emotionally detached from them over the years and tried to avoid becoming too close to them so that he would not be as sad when they were inevitably killed. After Norman successfully came up with a plan to escape without sacrificing anyone, Ray admitted defeat and finally joined Emma in vowing to not leave anyone behind. They ultimately decided to escape with all of their siblings over the age of five and return to rescue their younger siblings within two years, before they were old enough to be shipped out.

Isabella and Yukko[]

Carol did not know the real intentions of her caretaker, Isabella, and loved her very much as if she were her real mother. After fifteen of his older siblings escaped from Grace Field, Carol was sent to a different plantation at Grace Field with a new mother, Yukko. Still not knowing the truth of the orphanage, it is assumed Carol loved her new caretaker just as much as Isabella.

Jackie, Simon and Helen[]

After being relocated to a different plantation at Grace Field after the fire and destruction of Plant 3, Carol was seen happily playing with the children at her new home, mainly Jackie, Simon and Helen. Carol loved her new siblings, was kind to them and got along well with them. In return, they welcomed her into their family without a second thought.

Phil[]

Following the fire and destruction of Plant 3, Phil and Carol were moved to a new plantation together. Phil acts like an older brother towards her, as he is always watching over her, playing with her, as well as being proud and happy of her rapid growth. Phil also feels like it is his responsibility to save Carol and his other siblings from their cruel fate.

Eugene, Sherry, Charlie and Milly[]

Carol is close to Eugene, Sherry, Charlie and Milly as they are part of her family. She was often seen playing with them and cared deeply about them. After Plant 3 burned down, Carol and Eugene, Sherry, Charlie and Milly were relocated to the same plantation at Grace Field where they continued to be close.

Grace Field Escapees[]

Carol and her older siblings loved each other very much. After fifteen of her older siblings escaped from Grace Field and Plant 3 burned down, Carol was seen expressing concern of their whereabouts. Carol did not know the truth of the orphanage nor did she know that her older siblings had actually escaped, and after being relocated to a different plantation at Grace Field, she was told that her fifteen older siblings had been sent to live with foster families. Despite leaving her behind, the Grace Field Escapees vowed to return within two years to rescue Carol and their other younger siblings before they could be shipped out. When the Grace Field escapees see Carol upon reuniting, they cannot stop praising her and gushing over how much she has grown. Although, Carol does not remember who any of them are, she seems curious about them and promptly asks Phil who they are.
