Bayon (バイヨン, Baiyon?) is one of the antagonists of The Promised Neverland during the Goldy Pond Battle Arc. A demon who belongs to the group of Demons known as the "Poachers". He is the owner and administrator of Goldy Pond and manager of the Grand Valley Farm. He takes children from his plantation to use them as game for his hunting.

History[]

Bayon was born into demon nobility and served as one of the Five Regent Family heads before letting his son, Bayon II take over the position. A millennium ago, Bayon was in a meeting with several demons discussing how they should consume orphans when they are recently forbidden to do so due to the treaty. As the demons complained, Bayon came out with the solution of building the farms to "cultivate" the young of the humans so to satisfy the demons' need of consuming human flesh, as well as to comply with the treaty. Therefore, Bayon's solution was accepted and included as part of the treaty.

Bayon hunting 2

Bayon hunting humans in secret in his private garden.

Around 200 years after the establishment of the farms, Leuvis received the news of Bayon getting elected as an investor and manager of several farms, as he openly mocked Bayon and warned him off not to get carried away by his high ranking positions. Seemingly unoffended by Leuvis' comment, Bayon agreed with him, as he rhetorically questions on how it does not matter to him if he indeed gets carried away by his rank.[2] Around 300 years later, Bayon starts becoming sick of eating cold, jarred, pre-killed orphans from the farms and longs to hunt humans again. It gets to a point where he can no longer taste the meat he is eating because it lacks the zest of life. Around 300 years after that, Bayon can no longer stand eating pre-killed human meat that he gets from the farms so he starts playing a secret hunting game in his own personal garden, in which he ships out live humans from the farms he manages, kills them himself and then eats them. In his opinion, the meat tastes better this way because he feels like he is actually devouring a piece of life. The first time he ate a human he killed himself in so long, he cried tears of joy and could finally taste the meat again. At first he hunted one human once every three months, then one human once a month. Bayon quickly began to get "greedy" and could not stop, so he started doing it more and more often. He had to remind himself that his "secret pastime" must stay a secret in order to avoid getting in trouble for breaking the "Promise" and causing another war between humans and demons.

In 2031, Peter Ratri meets with Bayon and tells him that he knows about Bayon's "secret pastime". Deciding it best to keep it on the down low, but also not tell him to stop to avoid angering him, Peter also tells Bayon about Goldy Pond and offers it to him as a place where he can go and hunt humans in secret without risk of getting caught. Bayon purchased live orphans from the farms he manages (mainly Grand Valley), but also sometimes poached humans from the outside world, and dumped them into the second layer at Goldy Pond to become prey for he and his team to hunt.

Appearance[]

Bayon was a very tall and slender demon with gray skin and long black hair tied into a ponytail. His entire body is clothed in a light brown cloak with a cape draped over his shoulders and a necklace containing yellow and red jewels around his neck. Underneath his cloak, he wore an extravagant gown which goes past his feet and has long sleeves. Bayon wore a unique demon mask consisting of four eyes holes - two vertically placed and two horizontally placed. However, his eyes only see through the vertically placed eye holes. There is nothing behind the horizontally placed eyes holes except pure blackness giving his mask a menacing appearance. His mask also contains two long, straight horns coming out of the top as well as yellow and red jewels around the crown of his head, similar to the ones on his necklace. Bayon is often seen smoking a pipe. When hunting, he often wields a spear.

Personality[]

Bayon originally tried to hold true with the pact to not hunt humans but found the cattle-grown food dry and tasteless. It was only after hunting his first human in a millennium that he found his food tasteful again and decided to start his secret hunting grounds, not caring whether his prey could fight back. He's a bloodthirsty murderer who can't enjoy life without hunting and killing his food before eating it. It's only in his final moments when he is close to death that he rediscovers the joy in hunting prey that actually fights back and can potentially kill him and laughs manically.
