Although they’re dead, they’re still family. And this buried village is still my hometown. As long as I stay here and remember them, I can be with my family and friends.— Alex Mikhaylov to Emma "Your Everything"
Alex Mikhaylov (アレックス・ミハイロフ, Alex Mikhailov?) is a human man living alone in the Human World, who takes Emma in after she developed amnesia, due to the promise with Him.
History[]
Alex lived a happy life in a cold country (which does currently not exist) with his wife and daughter. He also had some friends he cherished. However, he lost his family and all of his friends in a war; he was the only one left alive. He has since lived alone in his home, spending his days honoring his deceased family members and friends' honor.[1] He is the one who wrote the book "The Mechanical Engineering and Human History" which has a copy placed in Grace Field House's library.
His name is revealed in "The Promised Neverland offscene 027".[2]
Appearance[]
Alex is an elderly man with a tall and full-bodied stature. He has ear-length, thin, white hair with slight waves, a thick beard and mustache, and a pair of tired but calm light-colored eyes along with thick eyebrows. He is often seen wearing warm clothes, such as fur coats with different patterns.
Personality[]
Alex is a very kind, caring, and level-headed man who is always ready to lend struggling people a hand. This is emphasized how he took Emma in and gave her a safe place after she forgot all about herself and her memories. He is patient with her amnesia and hopes that she will one day regain her memories or reunite with her forgotten family; even wishing that he could help her with that. At the same time, the man is also lonely and grief-stricken, as he lost his family and friends in what he calls “stupid wars”. Despite that, he is shown to be wise and continues living on in the same place in order to honor the people dear to him.[1]
Plot[]
Human World Arc[]
When Emma arrives in the Human World, she is found by the kind elderly man who rescues her. When she comes to, Emma realizes she doesn't have any memories. The man offers Emma a place to sleep and food until she regains her memories and until spring comes, since he lives in a place where there is no signal and no nearby villages. The months go by and Emma doesn't regain her memories, much to the man's sadness.
One morning, Emma finds the elderly man outside, standing in front of several, huge graves in forms of a cross. He explains to Emma that even though he is sad that he lost his family and friends, he continues living on to honor their memory. He voices his wish of wanting to help Emma find her forgotten family. When Emma breaks down in tears over her forgotten family, the man comforts her.
Following this, Emma accepts the fact that she won't regain her memories, so she continues living happily with the elderly man, whom became a foster father for her of a sort. She receives a new name and finds herself a new identity. One day, during spring 2049, the man takes “Emma” into town for grocery shopping. He tells her to not get lost as they are going straight home after shopping due to there not being any trains left. “Emma” wanders around but later ends up joining the man in a grocery shop. The man notes that “Emma” does not have her necklace, to which she goes outside to search for it. When he finishes shopping, he goes out to find Emma reuniting with her forgotten family, and smiles upon seeing it.[3]
