Emma never will be my favorite character she dosent meet my specifications
Ray will always and forever be my fav character
While Ray isn't my favorite character of the series, I believe he is the best out of these four. Emma, while being a nice and likable person, is a rather boring character to me, and I feel that she shares traits with the Mary Sue trope. She has proven herself to be strong willed and determined to free the humans, but her character does not have any interesting changes. She remains static and her character remains predictably just and righteous. I understand that Emma always sticking by her virtues was kind of the point the author wanted to make, but even so, she still is an uninteresting protagonist to me.
Now, I would have chosen Norman if the author did not waste so much potential that he had. Norman always had a slightly enigmatic atmosphere to him, and his time away from Ray and Emma could have certainly built up upon it. In the later chapters, when Norman reunites with the other two, he reveals that he was given high expectations as a leader, but was suffering inside because he never had the emotional and mental support he needed in order to keep carrying out his roles as a leader. That introduces a very powerful and interesting theme that can be relatable since academic prodigies sometimes have to meet high expectations but are suffering because their necessary emotional and mental support is often neglected. This theme has so much potential, and I wish the author actually went into detail about what happened while Norman was away and his emotional and mental struggles. This is also why I'm kind of hoping that the author creates a mini series focusing on Norman. But since the author missed the opportunity, I can't really vote for him.
Isabella is a decent character, though not my favorite. She is a nice morally gray character, but in the beginning chapters, I felt like the authors should dive deeper and explore her character more. The authors did do it, but unfortunately rushed it in my opinion. Her plot twists in her character in the last chapters felt sudden and a little contrived since scarcely any clues were given at all before hand and they explain the twists away after. Although the explanations were actually interesting, I felt that Isabella's characterization was rushed, which I guess can't be helped since she doesn't reappear until near the end of the series.
That is why I chose Ray. The big plot twist near the beginning of the story added more depth to his character and made him interesting. Unlike Norman and Isabella, Ray was given the necessary time needed in order to be characterized thoroughly through his interactions, thoughts, and actions. I like him the most out of these four because he is the most interesting and the best written compared to Norman and Isabella.
So yeah that was my TED Talk
Wow, I didn’t think that far into it O_o I used to like Norman but after your explanation I guess I like Ray more ?
